Quality, comprehensive community engagement is at the heart of what we do at Creating Communities. We believe it is fundamental that all projects and developments take into account the needs and aspirations of all parts of the community.
In 2021, we worked with valued partners on a wide range of projects in a variety of sectors including:
We worked with the Town of Bassendean on a new masterplan for the town centre. This project brought our team’s multi-disciplinary expertise to the fore using our engagement, town planning and masterplanning expertise. The engagement included one-on-one meetings with key stakeholders, focus groups, community design workshops, community drop-in sessions and a survey. All key areas covered in the masterplan engagement report received high levels of community support.
CCA was excited to partner with Edith Cowan University on community and stakeholder engagement for the proposed ECU City Campus. This is a landmark development for the Perth CBD, and we undertook extensive consultation with stakeholders and the wider community to gauge responses to the proposal and provide input into the design of the campus and the role it can play in the life of the city.
With Megara Property we conducted a comprehensive community engagement process for the proposed redevelopment of Sorrento Plaza shopping centre. This involved in-depth interviews with neighbours, businesses in the plaza and resident groups, as well as discussion groups and collaborative design workshops with residents in Sorrento and surrounds. There had been significant community opposition to previous plans for the beachside site, but we worked with the community to develop design principles that were used to inform the design and received a high level of public support. Plans for the development are still being finalised.
CCA has an extensive track record working with the education sector, and a key project in 2021 involved planning and engagement for the Burns Beach Primary School which opens in 2022. The process provided public input and helped build positive relationships in the local community. We also developed a prospectus and website and other communications materials to provide information to local families about the new school.
We worked with Mirvac on the engagement process for a proposed apartment development in its Peninsula Burswood precinct. We developed communications materials and sought feedback on the project designs through a community survey, neighbour briefings and a meeting with council of owners of neighbouring developments. The input informed the final design process and the project received unanimous approval from a Joint Development Assessment Panel.
