The year was 1992 and Eddie Mabo had been successful in his challenge in the High Court over Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land rights, the West Coast Eagles would go on the win the flag, English rock band Radiohead released the hit single Creep, It was the Year of the Woman in the United States with a record number of women elected in the Senate and Allan Tranter started a small entity called Creating Communities.
30 years later and we are on the precipice of a landmark decision that could see an Indigenous Voice to Parliament, Creep has been downloaded on Spotify more than a billion times and Creating Communities continues to bring people together, to build strong, resilient communities across Australia.
We’ve been in the business for three decades now and to mark the occasion, we’re sharing a thought-provoking deep dive into a selection of stories, ideas and lessons from the past 30 years.

We’re proud of the work we do and the diversity of ideas, people and communities that we work with. Creating Communities was built by a community of women and men who came together to be a force of good, united by the same core values that inspire positive action and change.
From narratives of community longevity to recollections of development trends and practices, over the month of November broaden your horizons as we capture stories of culture and strong nations, debates on placemaking and its place in community development and reflect on where we started, to where we are now.
