Conversations | 19. Amit Khaira  – Support our emerging generations

The world looks very different to what it did only a couple of months ago, and that is a particular challenge as young people consider their futures.

This issue is occupying the mind of educator and parent Amit Khaira as he helps emerging generations deal with issues surrounding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the latest interview in Creating Communities’ Stronger Together series of video conversations, Amit says every young person will respond differently to the stresses the pandemic has wrought. Some thrive on change, while others will struggle.

He says it is important for parents and teachers to work together to support young people through upheavals in their schooling and in their usual routines.

And Amit tells young people not to be afraid to reach out and make use of the many services and organisations dedicated to supporting them.

“You are still part of an amazing community,” he says.

Amit Khaira has worked with emerging generations across three continents. He has experience in business, education and not-for-profit sectors. He is married with four children and is passionate about emerging generations realising their full potential, and becoming valuable contributors to their families and communities.

This interview is part of Creating Communities’ series of video conversations with prominent Australians offering insights and wisdom on coping with the challenges this pandemic presents for all of us. It is a key part of our “Stronger Together” approachto the COVID-19 crisis as we work to bring people and communities together to help each other through this testing time.
