Creating Communities has been coordinating the Broome Growth Planning Project for the Growth Planning Partnership* on the Broome Growth Plan, part of the State Government’s Regional Centres Development Plan (RCDP), funded by the Royalties for Regions program. This project brings together the region’s top thinkers, business pioneers and community leaders to map an exciting future.
The RCDP aims to bring self-sustaining, long-term growth to regional centres like Broome by stimulating business, investment and innovation. These towns have a crucial role as hubs for business, community and essential services, and their growth will bring ongoing benefits and opportunities to the surrounding regional areas.
One of the Broome Growth Plan’s most important goals is to empower the community leaders of the Kimberley to become the ‘Makers and Shakers’ of the region’s economy, and the directors of its future.
Broome Makers is the community engagement initiative of the Broome Growth Plan and involves a range of community-based activities, including workshops for local leaders across eight industry ‘Clusters’ and a competition to kick-start new business ideas. The initiative built up to the Broome Makers Cluster Muster, a full-day session held on 29 June where the whole community got involved.
* The Broome Growth Plan Partnership (GPP) comprises the Shire of Broome, Kimberley Development Commission, LandCorp, the Department of Planning and the Department of Regional Development.
