Project

Wellard Community Sponsorship Program

Client

The Village at Wellard Joint Venture Partners - Peet Limited and the Department of Housing and Works.

Challenge

The Village at Wellard is a new residential development between Peet Limited and Landstart located 1.5 kilometres south of the Kwinana town site.

The joint venture partners required a method in which to manage ad-hoc sponsorship requests from the public, support the local community, identify and interface with community groups, profile the project and joint venture within the community and build social capital.

Strategy

To be eligible for a grant, community groups are only considered if the project, activity or event can demonstrate that it meets one (or more) of the following criteria:

  • It stimulates and adds value to the local community’s sense of pride, place and identity;

  • It encourages local economic vitality (ie business start up, job creation)

  • It enhances or restores the local natural or built environment (eg restoration works);

  • It contributes to community identity and social cohesion;

  • It provides art/cultural, sport and recreation-based opportunities for the local community; or

  • It specifically caters for the less advantaged in the local community.

Achievements

Up to 35 local groups and organisations have received community grants to the value of $40,000 for projects and activities across the areas of environmental, business, training, sport and recreation, arts/culture and youth development.
