The Village at Wellard Community Art Project

Client

Wellard Joint Venture Partners (Peet Limited and the Department of Housing and Works)

Challenge

To develop an art project that would reflect local environmental values, deliver significant community, cultural and educational outcomes for residents and students, and contribute to the sense of ‘place’.

Our Role

Our roles included:

  • Developing the project concept and program for community engagement and capacity building;
  • Working in partnership with the Town of Kwinana, Peter Carnley Anglican Community School and Challenger TAFE to develop an interactive program that provided positive engagement and PR opportunities for the clients and other agencies;
  • Identifying and securing project funding;
  • Project management and coordination;
  • Promoting the project and coordinating the involvement of community members and students.

 

Outcomes

Our involvement:

  • Successfully brokered partnerships between the client, local school and Council;
  • Secured a Community Arts Network of WA CATAYST grant of $7,800 for the project;
  • Enhanced students’ and community members’ knowledge and value of local native flora and fauna;
  • Brought diverse members of the community together to work on the project;
  • Created artworks that reflect the community’s environmental values, contribute to dynamic and interactive public open space and sense of community ownership, and improve the visual environment.
