Regional Strategic Planning

Project

St Andrew’s District Structure Plan

Client

Yanchep Sun City Ltd Pty

Scope

The St Andrews Project is Australia’s largest single urban landholding. The project area covers an area of 7550 hectares and will accommodate a population of around 155,000 or around 2% -3% of Australia’s population growth between 2006 and 2050.

Creating Communities has been contracted by Yanchep Sun City Ltd Pty since 2003 to plan for the new communities and to strengthen the existing community. This has involved extensive social planning, regional facilities planning, community consultation, enterprise development and community development project initiation.

Creating Communities also worked with the project team in the preparation of the District Structure Plan to determine the need for regional community facilities.  The St Andrews Community Facility Planning Reference Group was formed with representation from the client group and the local government as well as other relevant stakeholder agencies.

Creating Communities also consulted with key state government agencies to confirm the land requirements necessary to accommodate the following district and regional facilities:

  • District and regional active open space
  • Museums
  • Hospitals/ health facilities/ ambulance depots
  • Cemeteries
  • Police stations
  • Tourist camping grounds

Following investigation into accepted provision standards and trends impacting regional facility provision, Creating Communities prepared a discussion paper indicating requirements for regional community infrastructure in St Andrews and nearby landholdings. This report formed part of the St Andrews District Structure Plan.
