Background | A Draft Master Plan has been developed to plan the revitalisation of South Hedland. Project partners, the Department of Housing and Works, the Town of Port Hedland and Jaxon Constructions, are committed to working in partnership with the community to provide high quality built structures, as well as generate positive social and economic opportunities as part of the South Hedland New Living project. “New Living” is a State Government urban renewal initiative managed by the Department of Housing and Works in partnership with the private sector. |
Our Role | Creating Communities has been engaged to design and manage a comprehensive community development strategy to address a range of issues impacting on the community. The first phase in delivery of the Community Development and Economic Development program was to conduct extensive research to gain a "baseline" from which to plan and implement sustainability initiatives. A Community Audit of both Port and South Hedland communities was conducted incorporating in-depth community research, a literature review and stakeholder consultation. Another key role for Creating Communities includes the design and implementation of a consultation process that seeks the views of the community on the proposed South Hedland Draft Master Plan. A number of consultation tools were developed to seek community views on the Draft Master Plan, such as information fact sheets; open days; a project update newsletter; one-on-one meetings with stakeholders; a household letterdrop; and stakeholder communication. Creating Communities will complete a consultation report to summarise the findings and inform the Draft Master Plan. The key findings from the consultation will be presented to the project partners, stakeholders and then communicated to the community. |
