Redevelopment of the High Wycombe Hotel Site

Client

Project Managers, High Wycombe Hotel Site

Issue

The major task for Creating Communities was to facilitate the development of a vision for the redevelopment of the hotel site – a shared vision that reflected the needs of the broader community.

Gaining the support of the vast majority of local people and Council was a pivotal strategy in gaining government approval for the project.

Successes

  • Development of a vision for the future that reflected the desires of the community and stakeholders;

  • Repositioning the redevelopment of the site from just a "place to drink with some shops" into a much needed community hub forming “the heart of High Wycombe";

  • Government approval for the project to go ahead; and

  • Through the visioning and consultation process a number of elements were incorporated in the High Wycombe Village and helped gain broad community support for the project. These were a shopping centre, tavern/restaurant, retirement village, medical centre, cafes, public amenity and the beautification of previously unusable open space.
