Opportunity

Lakelands is a 2,000-lot estate that places sustainability principles at the forefront of its planning and design. Developed around two regionally significant environmental lakes, Peet Limited’s Lakelands Estate demonstrates how urban development can, with an environmental vision, succeed.

Our Role

Creating Communities forged partnerships between Peet Limited and Job Futures, Peel Employment and Training, and the City of Mandurah to deliver a Green Corp training project for 10 local youth around the environmentally sensitive Black Swan Lake. Specific works included carried out by the youth team included site cleanup, revegetation works, installation of nesting boxes, construction of 2.5 kilometres of  limestone footpath and fabrication and installation of street furniture.

Successes

  • Rehabilitated a regionally significant environmental asset;

  • Enhancement of a community asset;

  • Improved skills and career prospects for young people;

  • Facilitated a collaborative project between the developer, local and state governments and the private sector to deliver positive environmental and community outcomes; and

  • Activated a community space for the Lakelands and regional community.
