Project

Harvest Lakes Community Survey

Client

LandCorp

Challenge

In 2001, LandCorp embarked upon a bold new approach to community development in its Harvest Lakes Estate. LandCorp has made a significant investment into social planning during the urban planning process with a strong emphasis on intentional community formation and the early provision of community facilities.

Strategy

In 2004, LandCorp initiated biannual surveys with Harvest Lakes residents to assess the community life in the Estate, to measure community perceptions and the impact of LandCorp’s community intervention strategies. The survey focused on residents' satisfaction, with a particular emphasis on community attitudes, community activities and events, level of involvement, utilisation of amenities and communication.

A second survey was conducted in 2006. Both surveys were undertaken with the support from the Harvest Lakes Residents Association and the City of Cockburn.

Our Role

Creating Communities was responsible for the design of the survey questionnaire, implementation of the surveys to 450 households, analysis of survey findings, completion of a survey report and presentation of recommendations to LandCorp.

Outcome

Creating Communities was able to achieve a 29% return rate for the 2006 survey. The findings have been instrumental in guiding community development strategies into the future. The results indicated that within three years, and with intentional community strategies, Harvest Lakes residents have developed a positive sense of community and a high level of community participation.
