Opportunity

The Byford community is one which is immensely proud of its rural character and unique lifestyle. The opportunity to incorporate the values, passion and aspirations of the local community into the creation of Byford Central demonstrates the developer’s interest in moving ahead in line with existing community value structures.

Strategy

Members of the Byford community, including residents, representatives from community groups and local schools, were invited to a workshop facilitated by Creating Communities. The aim of the workshop was to identify:

  • What is significant to residents about living in Byford;

  • What they see as being points of distinction and excellence in the community;

  • Ideas for activating public space; and

  • Community perceptions of the new growth in Byford.

Achievements

The initial community consultation and research into community branding opportunities for the Estate provided a framework for the community scan and a starting point for ongoing community engagement. Examples of community initiatives includes:

  • The Byford Central Community Sponsorship Program;

  • Byford Central Community Newsletter;

  • Sponsorship of local government initiatives and primary school raffles; and

  • Involvement of Marri Grove Primary School students in the revegetation of parklands.
