Gender development, community facilitation and social network strategy development

Project

Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Program

Client

AUS AID (Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, [RAMSI])

Challenge

To help women to evolve into community and national leadership roles by teaching them skills and increasing their capacity to mentor. Also to establish a national support structure for women in leadership by:

  • Running a pilot program of workshops and practice regimes;
  • Developing a system and structure in which women with existing capacity can mentor and support emerging leaders;
  • Working in partnership with Solomon Islands government, non-governmental organisations and RAMSI.

Our Role

We have been involved in this project since October 2008:

  • Co-designing the mentoring program;
  • Co-facilitating workshops in the Solomon Islands with women from the public service, NGOs and community groups;
  • Co-designing strategies and structures for ongoing support network development;
  • Stakeholder engagement and facilitating stakeholder workshops;
  • Assisting in developing capacity of local staff in program coordination.

Outcome

The project is ongoing, and initial training workshops have been enthusiastically received.
