Client

BHP Billiton Iron Ore

Challenge

To establish baseline data on community attitudes and opinions regarding community facilities, services, events and groups, and aspects of BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s operations, community engagement and growth plans in Port Hedland.

Our Role

We were engaged to design, develop and implement a random sample telephone survey of 500 residents, designed to:
  • Establish baseline data;
  • Guide BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s strategic planning and direction;
  • Provide comparable data with the BHP Billiton Iron Ore stakeholder surveys conducted in the town.

Outcome

  • The local population has been able to express its opinions and provide comments and suggestions about BHP Billiton’s support of the community and town of Hedland;
  • BHP Billiton Iron Ore has been able to tailor their community engagement program to reflect community desires;
  • Differences between stakeholder and community opinions have been established.
