Facilities planning and management

Project

Armadale Recreation Centre

Client

City of Armadale

Challenge

The City of Armadale had a vision for its recreation centre, which meant transforming it from an under-performing facility to one which could have a role to play in addressing local issues.

Our Role

Creating Communities was contracted by Council to review the centre’s management structure, with a view to broadening its function so it could be of significant benefit.

Through a review process the Armadale Police and Citizens Youth Club was identified as the most suitable agency to manage the centre in the future.

Vision and planning workshops with local services provider agencies played an important role in determining the community’s needs and aspirations for the centre.

Creating Communities also prepared the management agreement, which has since been implemented.

Success

  • Long term partnership between Council and the Armadale PCYC;

  • Married the fees of the City, the PCYC and the community;

  • Broadened the range of its activities from traditional sport and recreation to community development activities and social services;

  • Engaged the community in the management of the centre; and

  • Improved its image and financial performance.
