Continuing success for
community initiatives within the Town of Port Hedland
During 2009 we worked with various stakeholders to
establish the Hedland Young Leaders program and the Portbound Pilbara
Youth and Health Festival (both through work for South Hedland New
Living). Youth leadership development
in Hedland received state-wide recognition at the 2009 WA Youth Awards, while
other initiatives we undertook for South Hedland New Living included a ‘Cash for Trash’ recycling program, which was developed with the Care for Hedland Environmental Association and many other Stakeholders. We are also pleased to report that
Hedland blitzed the 2009 Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards – taking the
overall state award, as well as winning awards in three out of six
categories.

Consultation brings results – our
approach continues to achieve significant outcomes for clientsCCA’s community consultation and engagement
expertise continues to produce outcomes for clients on a range of projects,
including those that are particularly sensitive or where the needs and interests
of stakeholders vary. Recent successes include the $110 million Arcus
Redevelopment project in Subiaco and the Yanchep Two-Rocks District Structure
Plan, which will result in a new regional centre, 50,000 jobs and housing for
155,000 residents. We have also had success in managing the community
consultation process with Perth College to enable rezoning and development
approval for new school facilities. Other ongoing consultation projects include
Broome North, Karawara, Coolbellup and the Newman, Karratha and Tom Price town
centre revitalisations.
|
 | | Fresh, innovative solutions – customised
services continue to evolve
Each community, client and project is
different and CCA is constantly adapting its services to meet these needs.
This past year has seen the further development of a range of products for our clients,
including: Sustainability Assessment Tool. Local and Economic Employment Strategies. Social Enterprise Business Case and Feasibility Studies. Estate Management Strategies. Community Development Packages. Tender and Grant Writing.
|
| | Planting with the community – strengthening
communities and regenerating the environmentCCA believes environmental sustainability
starts with the community and has demonstrated this across the state. From Capricorn
at Yanchep to The Village at Wellard and Lakelands, school students, parents
and residents have rolled up their sleeves and planted tens of thousands of
seedlings. Under the Swan River Restoration Project at Guildford, planting by
students has played its part in protecting the river banks. As part of CCA’s focus
on community pride in the South Hedland New Living Project we have also
established the Cash for Trash recycling program with the Care for Hedland
Environmental Association. The initiative won the 2009 State
Environment Award for Resource and
Waste Management.
